The beer garden is partly shaded by chestnut trees and sun-umbrellas. Locals, tourists and school classes often make this a mixed crowd and lively beer garden. It is unusual to see anyone bringing home cooked meals, perhaps because most visitors do not come from Bavaria and are not necessarily aware of the custom. The Andechs beer garden is however not at odds with Bavarian tradition and to bring one's own food is not discouraged in any way. The self service food stall offers a selection of typical Bavarian cold and hot meals such as Hendl (roasted chicken) and Schweinshaxn (roasted pork knuckle), and of course, the famous Andechs beer brewed at location and served fresh from the tap. The available beer types are Spezial Hell and Bergbock Hell (lagers) at €5€6.80 40 p/Maß (June 2012May 2015), . There is also Weißbier Hell or Dunkel (regular or dark Bavarian wheat beer) at €3.20 p/pint and Doppelbock Dunkel at €6.80 p/Maß (the extra strong dark lager variety).
A fish stall offers Steckerlfisch (grilled fish-on-stick) at a pricey €20! This is however no ordinary Steckerlfish; the salmon brown trout, char or mackarel comes from the area and is grilled on a charcoal grill with 19 different herbs and spices from an organic herbal garden at Andechs. A lower priced variety is the Atlantic mackerel, depending on weight starting at €11. The fish stall is closed on Mondays.
Standard beer garden benches offer about 250 self-serviced seats. There are no serviced tables. Instead, the serviced and more formal Klostergasthof Andechs Wirtsgarten is located across the courtyard. Additionally, Kloster Andechs Bräustüberl, a few short steps up the hill, is the self-serviced beer hall with an outdoor terrace including some great views of the surrounding landscape. Guests can bring the Steckerlfisch from the Kloster Andechs Biergarten to the Kloster Andechs Bräustüberl.
