Postgarten is located in the small town of Herrsching on the east of Ammersee and is part of Seepost restaurant (not to be confused with Seepost Schöndorf on the north west shore across the lake). Seepost is one of the oldest buildings in Herrsching which once served as a post office.

The history of Seepost Herrsching dates back to 1456, when it was a manor house and residence of the Bavarian noble family Hundtsberger, who opened a restaurant at this location in 1567. Following several changes of ownership, a post station with stables opened in 1889 with the Inkeeper as manager. In 1902 a telegraph system with a morse transmitter was installed. The opening of the train track between Herrsching and Munich in 1903 meant the end of the post station and the last postal carriage left in November of the same year. After further ownership changes, the horse stables was removed, and between 1997 and 2000 the now historically listed building was renovated. Today, Seepost Herrsching offers a small and charming hotel with 17 rooms, restaurant and beer garden.

The beer garden has 450 seats in the self-serviced area with a row of 10 old-style fixed-to-the-ground tables along a small stream. Old chestnut trees provide the necessary shade in the entire beer garden. The serviced area in front of the hotel building is separated from the beer garden by a small road. Major football tournaments are shown live on a large screen.

Besides the traditional meals, visitors can enjoy a Steckerlfish (grilled fish on a stick) fresh from the Ammersee. New at the restaurant are long-forgotten old Bavarian specialties from Grandmother's recipe book, such as G'fülltes Surbraterl mit Schlappkraut or Kalbsnirnbrodn and as a dessert Topfenkrapferl or Zwetschgenbavesen. Confused? Come and try for yourself! The beer served is Augustiner and a Maß Helles (lager) straight out of a wooden barrel costs €6.

During weekdays, the beer garden opens at 5pm and on weekends at 2pm. The last beer is served at 10:30pm.
