In German language, a Wirtsgarten is a waitress serviced outdoors restaurant, usually below trees. Unline a real Munich beer garden, a Wirtsgarten does not include a self-serviced area or has any tables or benches allocated for guests bringing their own picnic.

There are countless Wirtsgarten's in and around Munich which advertise themselves as Biergarten's. Wirtsgarten's masquerading as beer gardens are also found in numerous city guides and in local and international media featuring the Munich lifestyle. Some local newspapers have even awarded Wirtsgarten's the a beer garden price of the year, while they are in fact not real beer gardens. This inevitably confuses countless of visitors and tourists who are coming to Munich to experience the real beer gardens, often as a result ending up in the wrong places.
