Der Kongress Garten is located at a former exhibition centre in Munich. The adjoining restaurant and beer hall once served as a canteen for the exhibition centre. The beer garden originally opened in 2007 under the name of Die Alte Messe, which was changed to Der Kongress Garten following a change of ownership 2010.

The food stall in the self-serviced area offers traditional beer garden meals, such as Hendl (roasted chicken) and spareribs. The restaurant specialises in seasonal Bavarian cuisine. A daily changing menu is provided to guests of the serviced area. The beer served is Augustiner and a Maß Helles (lager) costs 5.80. A regular "Frühschoppen" accompanied by music invites guests for an early Maß.

The beer garden is open depending on the weather from noon to midnight.

The main entrance to the beer garden is behind the famous Bavaria statue overlooking the Wiesn where the Oktoberfest takes place.
